Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is Red Halo?
Red Halo is a mobile safety app that lets you send instant emergency alerts with SMS/MMS, GPS location, and optional photo or video evidence. It’s designed to protect you in critical situations while keeping your privacy secure.
2. How do I send an alert?
With a single tap on the “Activate” button, Red Halo will begin recording and send an alert message to your chosen contacts. The alert can include your live location and evidence if enabled.
3. Who receives my alerts?
You decide. Red Halo allows you to pre-select trusted contacts — family, friends, or emergency responders — who will be notified immediately when you trigger an alert.
4. Can I share photos or videos?
Yes. Red Halo supports MMS and secure uploads of photos, videos, or audio evidence. These can help trusted contacts or authorities understand the situation in real time.
5. Is my data stored or sold?
No. By default, Red Halo does not store your personal data. You can opt in to temporary encrypted storage (e.g., 72 hours) for evidence preservation, but your data is never sold or shared with third parties.
6. How do I stop an alert if it was accidental?
Red Halo includes a short cancellation window (with a passcode) to stop false alerts before they’re sent. If the situation escalates, the alert will automatically go through.
7. Where can I use Red Halo?
Red Halo works anywhere with cellular service or Wi-Fi. Whether you’re at home, traveling, or in public, your alerts can reach your contacts instantly.
8. Does Red Halo replace calling 911?
No. Red Halo is designed to complement, not replace, emergency services. It ensures your trusted contacts are aware of your situation and have evidence while you call or wait for professional help.
9. How much does Red Halo cost?
Red Halo is free to use.
Our mission is to keep core safety tools accessible to everyone, so the app is available at no cost to users.
10. Why is it called Red Halo?
The halo represents protection and trust, while the red symbolizes urgency and action. Together, they embody our mission: stopping injustice and saving lives.
11. Opt-In/Opt-Out
How to Opt-In:
Users may opt in to receive SMS or MMS alerts from Red Halo by completing our consent form during app onboarding or through our website at redhalo.app/consent. By signing up, users agree to receive emergency notifications, account updates, and confirmation messages. The type of messages (SMS/MMS) and expected frequency are clearly explained at the time of consent.
How to Opt-Out:
At any time, users can stop receiving messages by replying STOP to any Red Halo SMS or MMS message. Once the opt-out request is received, we will immediately confirm via SMS and no further messages will be sent. Users can also rejoin at any time by replying START.
